LAKEWOOD (WABC) -- An animal rescue group is treating 40 dogs that it found in an abandoned home in New Jersey Thursday.

Officials from the rescue group Husky House say the home, on Spruce Street in Lakewood, was covered in feces and urine and that some dogs were found living in the walls.

The owners of the home have not been found.

Officials reportedly had to enter through a window to safe the animals, mostly golden retrievers and border collie mixes.

All the dogs, some with heavily matted fur, are getting groomed and medical attention.

Husky House is currently accepting any and all donations and are actively seeking cleaning supplies, blankets, gift cards, etc.

All donations can be sent to 391 Route 34, Matawan, NJ 07747.

Anyone who would be dropping off donations is asked to call or text 201-988-0600 ahead of time so that staff can prepare.
