Manhattan skyline may be getting dim to get more 'green'

NEW YORK -- Manhattan's skyline may be getting dim to get more 'green'.

The city council is considering a bill that would require commercial buildings to turn off the lights when they are empty at night. Landmarks like the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building would be exempt.

Supporters say it would save energy and help migratory birds. Opponents say the change could impact safety, making security cameras less effective.

The law could impact about 40,000 buildings.
