WALLKILL (WABC) -- One man is free on Monday night after spending more than a decade in prison for a double murder based on questionable tactics by a disgraced New York detective.

50-year-old Shabaka Shakur from Orange County was convicted in 1989 of killing 2 high school classmates based on evidence from retired Detective Louis Scarcella. Dozens of his cases are now under review for potential misconduct.

Shakur is the eighth prisoner convicted of murder to have his conviction tossed out because the case is linked to the disgraced former detective.

The Brooklyn D.A. says he will not retry the case
