FOREST HILLS, N.Y. (WABC) -- A hospital on Long Island is warning thousands of patients their personal information may have been stolen.

North Shore LIJ Health System says laptops were stolen from one of their contractors.

Those laptops may have contained personal information for 18,000 North Shore LIJ patients, including names, birth dates, diagnosis information, and insurance numbers.

About 2,000 patients may have also had their social security numbers stolen.

Patients will be notified by mail if their information is compromised.
