Father and son killed after crashing into cemetery in East Farmingdale, Long Island

EAST FARMINGDALE (WABC) -- Police are investigating a single-car crash that killed a man and his son in East Farmingdale Saturday.

According to Suffolk County Police, Ravi Maharaj was driving a 1995 Nissan Maxima southbound on New Highway at about 4 p.m., approximately one mile south of Conklin Avenue when he apparently lost control of his car, struck a fence and numerous headstones inside St. Charles Cemetery.

Maharaj, 44, of North Amityville, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

His son Lochan Maharaj, 11, was transported by East Farmingdale Rescue to St. Joseph's Hospital in Bethpage where he was pronounced dead.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
