New Jersey trooper dead in off-duty wreck in Ridgefield, New Jersey

RIDGEFIELD, N.J. (WABC) -- A New Jersey state trooper was killed Friday morning in an off-duty wreck.

Trooper Glenny Almonte was driving in his personal vehicle at around 1:45 a.m. Friday on the New Jersey Turnpike when his silver Honda Accord hit a curb and guardrail.

The car, which was southbound at the time near the Vince Lombardi service area, ran into the path of a southbound tractor trailer. The truck hit the driver's side of the Honda.

Almonte was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center where he was pronounced shortly after 2:30 a.m.

He was a member of the 152nd State Police Class that graduated the academy in 2013. Almonte was assigned to Totowa Station where he was a a general duty trooper.
