LIRR new trains have safety equipment space problem

The Long Island Rail Road's next generation of trains is way off track.

LIRR officials confirm they didn't set aside enough space to fit federally mandated crash-prevention equipment into 256 new trains, possibly increasing its cost and delaying its arrival.

The trains were expected to roll out in 2018.
