BERGEN COUNTY, N J (WABC) -- Authorities in Bergen County on Wednesday announced the arrest of a 17-year-old juvenile charged with repeated sexual abuse of a 6-year-old girl during a summer class at an elementary school.
Members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit were contacted on July 6 by the Fair Lawn Police Department, who reported that the teen had forcibly engaged in inappropriate sexual activity with the girl on numerous occasions.
The investigation revealed that the incidents occurred at the English Language Learner (ELL) Summer Enrichment Program at the Lyncrest Elementary School in Fair Lawn.
The suspect was a volunteer program counselor at the school, and the victim was a student there.
The suspect is charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault by sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child.
After being charged, the suspect was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center, where he appeared before the judge Tuesday.
