'Vision Zero' vigil and rally held in Union Square

UNION SQUARE (WABC) -- A vigil was held Tuesday evening for the victims of traffic accidents in New York City, calling for safer streets.

Hundreds of people gathered in Union Square for the "Vision Zero" event, calling for an end to what they call "traffic violence".

Organizers say more than 21,000 people have been hurt in traffic accidents in New York City since January.

More than 100 people have been killed.

The "Vision Zero" program is the city's foundation to end traffic deaths and injuries and reduce traffic violations.
