Rapper Bobby Shmurda arraigned on prison contraband and perjury charges

NEW YORK (WABC) -- The rapper known as Bobby Shmurda was arraigned Thursday on prison contraband and perjury charges, authorities said.

Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson said the 20-year-old hip-hop and rap artist, whose name is Ackquille Pollard, is accused of receiving a sharp metal object from his girlfriend, the separately-charged Kimberly Rousseau, when she visited him last month on Rikers Island.

Shmurda was being held on an underlying case being handled by the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor.

Rousseau is accused of reaching under her bra for the purportedly home-made knife and handing it to Shmurda.

He is also accused of falsely testifying to the Grand Jury about the incident. He pled not guilty to all charges and was remanded back to Rikers Island.

Rousseau, 19, previously pled not guilty to charges of promoting prison contraband and criminal possession of a weapon.

If convicted of the charges, Shmurda faces up to seven years behind bars.
