Glen Cove man accused of exposing himself to children at supermarket

GLEN COVE (WABC) -- A Long Island man has been indicted on charges he exposed himself to three children in two separate incidents at a Glen Cove supermarket.

Edward Ramirez, 43, is charged with sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a child and public lewdness.

A judge continued bail at $60,000 bond or $60,000 cash. Ramirez is due back in court on August 24. If convicted of the top count, he faces a maximum of seven years in prison.

"It is our job to protect those who cannot protect themselves, especially our children," said Acting District Attorney Madeline Singas, former Chief of the Special Victims Bureau. "This defendant is accused of targeting and exposing himself to young girls at a local supermarket on more than one occasion. We must do everything in our power to keep predators off our streets and away from our kids."

Singas said that Ramirez allegedly exposed himself to a seven-year old girl on November 24, 2014 at a Glen Cove supermarket. When the victim ran away, the defendant then allegedly forced a five-year old girl to touch him.

After the November 2014 incident, police notified the public of the incidents and another family came forward with details of Ramirez allegedly exposing himself at the same supermarket to an eight-year old girl in the summer of 2014.

Ramirez was arrested by the Glen Cove Police Department's Detective Squad and the Nassau County Police Department's Special Victims Squad on December 9, 2014.

Ramirez is also charged with Attempted Unlawful Surveillance in the 2nd degree for a separate June 24, 2015, incident in which he is accused of attempting to record a woman in the restroom of a Glen Cove restaurant.
