Alcohol may have played role in New Jersey boat crash sparking dramatic rescue

SPRING LAKE (WABC) -- Police say a boat driver had been drinking when he crashed into a jetty, forcing a dangerous boat rescue operation.

The crash happened in rough waters off shore in Spring Lake on Friday night. Coast Guard units and crews from five agencies worked to get the three people on board to safety.

One passenger suffered a serious head injury.

52-year-old Thomas McGinley was arrested on charges of boating while intoxicated.
