NEW YORK (WABC) -- On a day when controversy swirled about the costumed characters who inhabit Times Square, police were escorting one unwelcome visitor away from Times Square.

The NYPD made the unusual discovery of a boa constrictor right in the heart of the bustling area.

The Midtown North precinct tweeted out a photo of the snake, and the officers who found it, Sgt. Alamarie and Police Officer Glans.

Police did not release exact details on where the snake was found, or how it might have gotten there.
