OCEANSIDE -- Authorities say firefighters used an inflatable boat to rescue at least one person on Long Island after a water main break flooded streets and homes.

Nassau police say a 12-inch water main broke Monday afternoon in Oceanside, leaving the streets under roughly three feet of water and affecting about 30 homes. A large hole in the street almost caused a car to fall in.

Crews worked through the night to replace the line.

New York American Water officials say it's not yet known what caused the break.

No injuries were reported. It took about 45 minutes to plug the main.

Police said the roadway is being dug up to determine where the break happened.

Officials say 10 homes remained without water Tuesday morning.
