CLAREMONT, Bronx (WABC) -- A frightening bleach attack on a young woman was caught on camera on a busy street in the Bronx.

New surveillance video shows the moment of the attack on Franklin Avenue in the Claremont section.

Police say the victim was talking to a friend when a woman walked up behind her and threw bleach in her face.

The victim's mother says the attacker has been harassing her daughter for the past two weeks.

"She looks burned. Her face is burned, her eyes are burned. I just hope and pray my daughter is not blinded by this situation. I can't believe somebody would hurt by daughter like this, it makes no sense," said Joanne Lambert, the victim's mother.

It's not yet clear how badly hurt the victim is.

Police are searching for the attacker, who they say has purple hair.
