MIDLAND, Texas -- The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating following a crash involving an Iraan-Sheffield ISD bus and an 18-wheeler on Friday night.

DPS officials told KMID that the crash occurred on Interstate 20 near mile marker 176 in Howard County.

The bus, according to officials, was carrying cheerleaders who were on their way home from a football game earlier in the evening.

At least eight people were transported from the crash and hospital officials say two were in critical condition, two more were in serious condition and another was not severe.

The other injuries were unknown, and three have since been transferred to other facilities.

As of 3am Saturday morning, officials were still at the scene of the crash, separating the wreckage to be towed away.

A hospital spokeswoman said officials were planning to make a statement and provide updates on the patients conditions but decided to wait until more information was available.

More information is expected to be released later on in the day.
