Worker found dead on top of elevator
Darla Miles has the latest on the death of a construction worker in Hell's Kitchen.

HELL'S KITCHEN, Manhattan (WABC) -- Authorities say a man was found dead Sunday morning inside an elevator shaft in a building in Hell's Kitchen.

The FDNY and EMS received a call at 7:15 a.m. of a possible cardiac arrest at a building elevator at 555 Tenth Ave between 40th and 41st Streets.

When they arrived, they found the body of 53-year-old construction worker Stephen Simpson atop the elevator on the 6th floor.

Investigators say Simpson may have been trying to pry the elevator doors open after the building's power was turned off.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

The building is a luxury 56-story high-rise still under construction and unoccupied.

When construction workers arrived Sunday morning, they were told they could not go inside the building.
