Cops: Brooklyn man kills stepfather, stabs pregnant sister, commit suicide

BRIGHTON BEACH (WABC) -- Police are investigating an apparent murder suicide and attempted murder of a pregnant family member in Brooklyn that happened early Tuesday.

The incident happened on Ocean View Avenue in Brighton Beach, where police responded just after 2:30 a.m.

According to authorities, the 30-year-old suspect, Kostyantyn Proskurnyak, had an ongoing dispute with his 59-year-old stepfather and fatally stabbed him. Voclodymyr Yeushchenko was found unconscious and unresponsive in the family's first-floor apartment with a stab wound to his neck.

Police say Proskurnyak's 29-year-old sister heard the dispute from another room and attempted to run over and stop him. She was stabbed, possibly unintentionally.

She is 17 weeks pregnant and appears to be OK. The baby was not injured.

She was found at the corner of Brighton Beach Avenue and Coney Island Avenue with stab wounds to her back, wrist and forehead. She was rushed to Lutheran Medical Center, where she is listed in stable condition.

Authorities say the suspect then ran to the roof of the four-story apartment building and jumped off the roof to commit suicide.

The mother of the household is presently in Ukraine.
