Daughter-in-law indicted on 1st-degree murder charge in Peggy Nadell death

VALLEY COTTAGE, N.Y. (WABC) -- A Florida woman accused of beating, choking and stabbing her mother-in-law, and hiring another woman to help her, has been indicted in New York on a first-degree murder charge

The Rockland County district attorney says Diana Nadell of Cutler Bay, Florida, was charged Wednesday in the killing of 80-year-old activist Peggy Nadell. He says the motive was personal greed. Police have said the daughter-in-law wanted her "marital inheritance."

First-degree murder is sometimes used in murder-for-hire cases. It carries a maximum sentence of life without parole.

The alleged accomplice, Andrea Benson of Washington, D.C., was also indicted on first-degree murder. Both women were also charged with second-degree murder.

Peggy Nadell was found dead in her Valley Cottage home on Jan. 25.

Two other women accused of lesser crimes have pleaded guilty.
