PARSIPPANY (WABC) -- Residents are back in their homes after a ruptured gas line prompted an evacuation in New Jersey Friday morning.

The scene played out at a construction site near Dartford Road and Exeter Street in Parsippany.

Crews evacuated two blocks around the area after officials say the 2-inch line was struck and ruptured around 8 a.m.

Police sent out a reverse 911 call and went door to door, evacuating Devon Street and Exeter Street from Dartford Road to Sedgefield Drive. The evacuation was mandatory.

Representatives from gas company were on the scene to shut it down and make repairs.

The gas main was capped in 30 minutes, and residents were allowed to return.
