SOUTH PLAINFIELD (WABC) -- An explosion sparked a fire in New Jersey Friday morning.

It happened around 11 a.m. in South Plainfield in Middlesex County.

The mayor's office says there was a minor explosion in the back of the Polymer Dynamics industrial building at 238 St. Nicholas Avenue.

Fire crews were on the scene, working to put out the flames.

The manager of the company tells Eyewitness News that workers were using a machine that melts and mixes plastic near duct work that is not working, and that dust from the machine ignited.

There were four employees in the area at the time.

They are fine and did not sustain any burns.

They were not injured, but they were taken to hospital as a precaution.
