Father of North Carolina bride who got married at his hospital bedside dies

CHARLOTTE -- Jubal Kirby, the father of the bride who got married at his hospital bedside, has died.

A Carolinas Medical Center spokeswoman tells media outlets that Kirby died Saturday, three days after his daughter held her wedding in his hospital room. Kirby, who was 49 years old, had been hospitalized for several weeks with a rapidly progressing form of lung fibrosis.

His daughter, 20-year-old Kaila Kirby, and her fiance, Daniel Pardue, had planned to get married next July, but they moved up the ceremony so her father could be present. They exchanged vows and rings at noon Wednesday at Kirby's bed in the hospital's medical intensive care unit.
