STATEN ISLAND (WABC) -- There were some scary moments for a Coast Guard crew on board a helicopter when they were forced to make an emergency landing on Staten Island.

The chopper touched down on a golf course in Richmond County on Sunday morning.

Coast Guard officials say the pilot landed because of smoke and fumes in the cockpit.

The crew had come up from Atlantic City to monitor an oil spill that was caused when a tugboat hit a fuel tanker in Bayonne on Saturday night.
