Officials rescued a kayaker in distress in the Long Island Sound Saturday morning.

Martha Bailey, 60, was kayaking around 11 a.m. when her vessel tipped over and she was thrown into the water.

Bailey radioed emergency officials and activated a position beacon. The Suffolk County Police Department and the United States Coast Guard responded and found Bailey minutes later.

She was hanging onto her kayak and wearing a life jacket when she was rescued. Bailey was taken by Coast Guard vessel to the New Haven U.S.C.G station.
