LONG BEACH, Long Island (WABC) -- A Long Island man is accused of assaulting two police officers during an arrest.

Authorities say they found numerous drugs inside a car during a traffic stop in Long Beach Friday.

When they began to place 33-year-old Charles Rodriguez of Oceanside under arrest, the officers say the suspect tried to take their weapons.

Additional officers were called in to help bring him under control. Rodriguez had a gravity knife in his pocket, police say.

Three other people in the car are now facing drug charges.

Police say they found marijuana, three bags of heroin, a hypodermic syringe, cocaine, and a hallucinogen in the vehicle.

The officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries and released.
