Man charged with DWI after pedestrian killed in Smithtown

SMITHTOWN (WABC) -- A Long Island man was charged with DWI after a car crash killed a pedestrian in Smithtown on Friday.

Timothy Burke, 43, of Saint James, was driving northbound around 8:30 p.m. in a 2006 Dodge Charger on Route 111 when, according to Suffolk County Police, said he hit a pedestrian crossing Route 111.

The pedestrian, Kenneth Rich, 51, of Smithtown, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Burke was charged with driving while intoxicated and is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday.
