Man killed in Brentwood hit and run
Josh Einiger has the details from Brentwood.

BRENTWOOD, Long Island (WABC) -- Police in Suffolk County spent hours working the scene on Washington Avenue in Brentwood late Friday night, hunting for the driver who slammed into a pedestrian and left him for dead.

"We heard the 'BOOM,' cause it was like a hard sound," said Santa Guzman.

The accident happened in front of Guzman's house as she was getting ready for bed. Officers say 41-year-old Jose Salinas was walking in the middle of the street, and in the dark when an SUV slammed into him. The driver kept on going, leaving the victim's body in the street, and right in the path of a second car, which ran him over.

"He was not able to move, I saw the sneakers that he has like all over - it was very bad, it was very bad," Guzman added.

The woman driving the second car stopped immediately, but it was too late for Salinas, who lived in the neighborhood, and routinely walked up and down the street. For this neighbors, it's all a little too much.

"You know, for us it was kind of shock, because it was right here," said Guzman.

The woman who was driving the second car was too traumatized to speak on Saturday night. Her family tells Eyewitness News that she is hoping the driver who fled will turn himself in.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police.
