Pedestrian hit by taxi in Copiague, Long Island; critically injured

COPIAGUE -- A 38-year-old man is hospitalized in critical condition after he was hit by a taxi on Long Island.

Suffolk County police say the accident happened at 1:38 a.m. Saturday in Copiague.

Police say the victim was trying to cross Great Neck Road when he was struck by a taxi operated by Sunset Airport and Limousine Service.

The injured pedestrian was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. He is listed in critical condition.

His name was not released.

The taxi driver was not injured.

Detectives are continuing the investigation.
