Police officer injured while pursuing suspect on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND (WABC) -- An NYPD officer is recovering after suffering minor injuries while pursuing a suspect on Staten Island, police said.

At approximately 4 a.m. Saturday, officers were flagged down in their patrol car by a victim who was standing outside the vicinity of 3555 Victory Blvd., according to the NYPD.

The victim pointed out a suspect, who police say is a known suspect in a previous armed robbery.

As officers approached the vehicle, the suspect drove off, causing injuries to the officer's left shoulder and left arm.

He was taken to the hospital for observation.

The vehicle was described as a red, four-door sedan.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
