Suspect accused of attacking his mother shot by police in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY (WABC) -- A man is hospitalized after a police-involved shooting in New Jersey.

It happened as officers were responding to a domestic dispute at a home on Lembeck Avenue in Jersey City Monday night.

According to investigators, at about 11:00 p.m., police found the man, in his 20's, in an upstairs bathroom choking his mother.

He had a knife in his hand and lunged at police, authorities say.

Officers fired, hitting him twice. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The woman is OK. Three officers were checked out at the hospital.
