Girl in Westbury grabbed by stranger while on way to school

WESTBURY, Long Island (WABC) -- Police are investigating after a fifth-grader was reportedly grabbed by a stranger on Long Island Wednesday morning.

Authorities say the 10-year-old girl was walking to Drexel Avenue Elementary School at Grand Street and Winthrop Avenue in Westbury around 9:15 a.m. when she was approached from behind by a man who grabbed her arm.

The victim broke free from him, ran and hid until the suspect fled the scene. The victim then ran to school and reported the incident.

The man never said anything to the victim, police said.

He is described as a white man in his 30s, heavy set, wearing an orange T-shirt, shorts and work boots. He was last seen heading east on Winthrop Avenue toward Post Avenue.
