Police in Edison responding to possible home invasion

EDISON, N.J. (WABC) -- Police are investigating another violent home invasion where suspects stormed in to a house in New Jersey and tied up a family.

This latest incident happened in Edison, and police are investigating if it is connected to three other similar incidents that occurred nearby in recent weeks.

Authorities have not officially connected the cases, but that is little comfort to Singh family, the latest victims in this violent crime spree.

"We are one of the unlucky people that it happened," Rajesh Singh said. "Thankfully, we are not hurt."

The family's nightmare began around midnight Thursday, when, according to neighbors, three armed men busted in, tied everyone up with duct tape -- including their three young children -- and then robbed the place before fleeing.

"They are holding up," Singh said of his children. "They are pretty strong kids."

The suspects seemingly staked out the house, taking advantage of the moment when Singh's wife was taking out the trash.

"Just whatever you want to take it, just take it and go," Singh recalled saying. "Don't hurt anybody."

What is even more alarming is that this is the fourth home invasion in Middlesex County in just the last 10 days. And each time, the suspects have apparently targeted Asian and Indian families.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating, with officers spending much of the morning canvassing the neighborhood, looking for any clues that the suspects may have left behind.

The men were armed with guns and wearing masks. They spent about 20 to 25 minutes inside the house, and Singh's wife suffered minor injuries when she was pushed during the robbery.

No arrests have been made, but the investigation is active and continuing.
