PUTNAM VALLEY (WABC) -- Police in Putnam County are investigating a reported attack upon a teenage girl who was walking her dog.

The incident happened along Timberline Court around 5 p.m. Monday.

Authorities say the 14-year-old victim was walking the family dog along the street when an unknown man drove up in a car, got out and grabbed her.

A brief struggle ensued before the suspect got back in his car and drove away.

The victim used a cell phone to call 911, and sheriff's deputies and state troopers responded to the area and attempted to locate the suspect, without success.

The girl suffered minor scratches in the incident but was not seriously hurt. She was taken to New York-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor, where she was treated and released.

The girl described her attacker as a white male in his 20s, approximately 5-foot-6 and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black sneakers. The car he was driving was described as a later-model silver or white four-door sedan. The car had New York license plates with a white-colored background.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at (845) 225-4300. Calls will be kept confidential.
