Eyewitness News has details on the arrest of a sex offender accused of stalking young girls on Long Island.

WYANDANCH, New York (WABC) -- A Level 2 sex offender was arrested after he was reported to be stalking young girls in a Wyandanch neighborhood.

Authorities say a father of two young girls reported that a man was following girls in the neighborhood between July 5 and July 9.

Jeffrey Bernstein, 74, was arrested on Monday by Suffolk County police and charged with several offenses, including stalking and endangering the welfare of a child.

Bernstein allegedly drove slowly through the area, stopping and staring at young girls for long periods of time. On one specific occasion, police say he tried to lure a girl into his car with a bag of chips and exposed himself during another.

Bernstein was previously convicted of attempting to lure a child into a vehicle or building with the intent to commit a felony.
