Queens robbery suspect in custody after police search

ASTORIA (WABC) -- One person is in police custody after a police search following a robbery in Queens.

The scene played out in Astoria just after 7 a.m. Friday.

Authorities were searching for the person who ditched a white BMW after fleeing police during a traffic stop. The suspect abandoned the vehicle on Crescent Street and fled on foot.

Police quickly flooded the block, searching on foot and in the backyards of homes.

They believe the suspect in custody is responsible for one robbery and two attempted robberies.

Officers also recovered a weapon.
