STATEN ISLAND (WABC) -- A police search team made a daring rescue after a pair of jet skiers disappeared in the waters southeast of Staten Island.
At about 8:30 Sunday morning, members of the NYPD's Aviation and Scuba units responded to a call of a missing jet skier broadcast over an emergency marine frequency in the vicinity of the West Bank Lighthouse.
The FDNY removed a 29 year-old male stranded from that location who told them that a second man was missing and was possibly in the area.
As the unit approached Swinburne Island, they saw a man wearing a wet suit waving with one hand from the land below.
A rescue basket was lowered to the ground, and the 47-year old New Jersey man was secured into the basket and hoisted onto a helicopter.
He was taken to Staten Island University Hospital where he was treated and released.
