UNION SQUARE, Manhattan (WABC) -- A sidewalk sinkhole forced inspectors to evacuate a building in Manhattan.

Emergency crews responded to the mixed-use building on 2 West 16th Street in Union Square at around 2:30 on Sunday afternoon.

Inspectors say the sinkhole outside the building possibly compromised the structural integrity of the building's main exit.

The Red Cross is helping to relocate residents.
