LOWER MANHATTAN (WABC) -- Port Authority personnel teamed up to catch a suspect in a sex assault on a PATH train platform early Monday.

Police say the suspect, 33-year-old Andres Rodriguez, approached a female victim and began to sexually assault her about 4:45 a.m. on the platform of the Christopher Street station.

Workers in the PATH Security Operations Center witnessed the incident via camera and announced over the station's PA system that the suspect's actions were being observed. At the same time, other security personnel contacted Port Authority police.

The suspect stopped his assault and was met seconds later by officers who had been provided with his description by personnel, and he was placed under arrest on the platform by Port Authority police.

The victim, a 31-year-old female, was taken to an area hospital and was released.

Rodriguez is charged with attempted rape and sexual abuse.
