SPUYTEN DUYVIL, Bronx (WABC) -- A teenager is charged with burning his friend's clothing and belongings after the friend drowned in a creek in New York City last month.

Christian Oflynn, 16, is awaiting arraignment on criminal tampering charges.

Oflynn and his friend, 22-year-old Gavin Thompson, were swimming in Spuyten Duyvil Creek on August 7.

Police said that when his friend Thompson drowned, Oflynn did not report it to police. The next day, Oflynn returned to where they jumped into the creek and burned the clothes and belongings his friend had left behind.

Thompson's body was recovered two days later in Marble Hill.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Spuyten Duyvil Creek connects the Hudson River with the Harlem River between the boroughs of Manhattan and the Bronx.
