FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP -- A tour bus fire near Exit 12 on I-287 southbound in Franklin Township forced the closure of the right and center lanes and caused some delays Saturday night.

The fire broke out in the Van Hool coach bus just before 9 p.m. New Jersey State Police say all passengers were able to get off of the bus, and there were no injuries.

Passengers climbed off the bus and ran along the southbound lanes of Interstate 287 to escape the blaze.

Authorities still aren't sure where the bus departed from or where it was headed. The passengers were transferred to another bus to continue their trip.

The cause of the blaze remained under investigation Sunday.

Police shut down all but one lane of traffic as the fire was extinguished and the remains of the bus were removed from the road. All lanes reopened later Saturday.
