Police warn of mail scam in New Jersey
A.J. Ross has the story from Bloomingdale.

BLOOMINGDALE, N.J. (WABC) -- There's a puzzling crime wave in a town in New Jersey.

Deliveries are showing up at homes of people who didn't order them and addressed to someone who doesn't live there.

Then, surprise, someone shows up looking for the package, perhaps bought with stolen credit cards?

A rash of these unwanted deliveries is happening in the Passaic County Borough of Bloomingdale.

"They had our address," the victim said.

It starts with a package mailed to your home with the wrong name, and then follows with a strange knock at your door.

"It makes you feel very uncomfortable," she said.

This woman didn't want us to show her face but says she recently got a special delivery she didn't order.

"When I opened up the package I noticed that it was one of those high tech iPhones, iPhone 6 so I said I didn't order it and I thought maybe my neighbor upstairs, but it wasn't his either," she said.

At first she thought it may have been a post office mix up, until a man she'd never seen before rang her doorbell.

"He said, 'Well a package came here?' I said, 'If a package came here, I don't know nothing about it and you don't live here,'" she said.

Bloomingdale police confirm there's been a recent wave of these mysterious deliveries, with the same man showing up to homes posing as the package's rightful owner.

"Says, 'I know that there's a package been delivered here, I believe it's my package,' and at that point we've been contacted several times," said Officer Robert Grabowski, of the Bloomingdale Police Department.

Police only have a vague description of the suspect at this time; however he's believed to be driving a blue minivan with New York plates.

They're asking neighbors to be alert and immediately report any suspicious activity.

"If they don't feel comfortable, don't answer the door, just give us a call and we'll be there," Officer Grabowski said.
