Up Close: Murders of NYPD officers
NEW YORK (WABC) -- It was a cold-blooded murder. NYPD Officer Miosotis Familia was shot in the head by a single bullet that came through the window of her police vehicle.
Within seconds, her comrades chased the gunman and shot him.
During the gunfire, an innocent bystander was wounded.
Officer Familia was a 12-year NYPD veteran, the mother of 12-year-old twins and a 20-year-old daughter.
The killer was 34-year-old Alexander Bonds. He was on parole when he killed the officer. He has a long history of crimes.
Officer Familia's murder comes two and a half years after the execution style murders of Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu while they sat in their squad car.
That killing affected so many people in the NYPD, including Jordan Castro, a sergeant who decided after the murders of Ramos and Liu to write a book: "Smoke and Mirrors: Police Dreams".
I talked to him last month, well before this latest murder, about his book, and being a cop.
