CHICAGO -- Members of a group called Chicago Uprising gathered near the Lincoln Memorial in Lincoln Park Saturday night and set fire to several Confederate flags, officials said.

The flags are now the focus of a renewed debate, which was sparked by the deadly Charleston church shootings.

Two people were arrested in South Carolina Saturday after an activist climbed a 30-foot flagpole and removed the Confederate flag from in front of the state capitol.

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley called for the removal of the flag last week, although conservative politicians who have led the state for a quarter-century have rebuffed many previous calls to remove the flag.
