STAMFORD (WABC) -- Stamford police have made an arrest in a fatal hit and run that killed a 70-year-old woman crossing the street Sunday night.

The incident happened at Woodland Avenue near Atlantic Street just before 7 p.m.

Forty-five-year-old Yolanda McDowell, of Stamford, is charged with manslaughter and evading responsibility after witnesses who saw the accident gave police her minivan's license plate number.

Authorities say several vehicles had stopped to let the woman cross, and McDowell crossed the double yellow line into the eastbound lane to pass the cars. She then hit the pedestrian.

Witnesses say the minivan struck another vehicle and fled the scene.

Authorities haven't identified the victim.

McDowell, who was arrested at her home on Durant Street about an hour after the accident, is being held on $250,000 bail.
