FRESH MEADOWS (WABC) -- Police have filed charges against a woman in Queens accused of slashing an off-duty New York City officer.

55-year-old Avril Lindo is charged with assault and attempted robbery.

The officer was attacked Friday as she walked her dog near 197th Street and Union Turnpike in Cunningham Park in the Fresh Meadows section.

Police say she was approached from behind by Lindo, who tried to grab her purse, then slashed the right side of her neck.

She identified herself as an off-duty police officer when she called 911, reporting she had been stabbed.

The victim was taken to North Shore University Hospital-Manhasset with a non-life threatening injury.
