Woman gives birth on Downtown Brooklyn sidewalk

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN (WABC) -- An expecting mother encountered the unexpected when she gave birth on a sidewalk in Downtown Brooklyn.

The chaotic scene unfolded on Henry Street just before 6 p.m. Sunday. The woman, who had just gotten off the train, was about to hail a cab when she suddenly went into labor.

Police rushed in to help the woman give birth, and onlookers crowded around.

"I was completely shocked myself by it," said eyewitness Millie Younger. "And the baby was so beautiful, I said my goodness, what a privilege, seeing the baby being born."

After the baby boy came into the world, he and mom were both taken to a nearby hospital.
