Woman in wheelchair slashed in face in East Harlem; suspect on the run
EAST HARLEM, Manhattan (WABC) -- A violent attacker is on the run after slashing a vulnerable victim in the face at random in East Harlem.
It happened early Sunday morning on 125th Street between 3rd and Lexington Avenues, as the woman drove her motorized chair along the sidewalk.
The 42-year-old quadriplegic woman, who suffers from cerebral palsy, sustained a severe gash to her face.
The NYPD released new video of the suspect:
"She is always up and down the avenue, you know, pedaling, and it is unfortunate, in a chair. You know, I guess she was just at the wrong place at the wrong time," a resident said.
Police aren't sure what kind of blade was used. The disabled mother of two was rushed to Lincoln Hospital where she received 50 stitches.
"There is nothing over here. You can't really walk by yourself. You can't walk by yourself, a woman at 3:00 in the morning. It is bad at 6:30," a resident said.
Police say the suspect never asked for a dime, he simply sliced her face and took off.
The suspect is described as 18-25 years old, wearing a black v-neck shirt, black basketball shorts, and white basketball sneakers.
