Officers shoot carjacking suspect who led police on chase in Newark

NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- An active investigation is underway in Newark after authorities said officers shot a carjacking suspect who led them on a chase Thursday.

The chase ended near S. 11th Street and Avon Avenue late in the afternoon.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office said the suspect has been taken to the hospital. There's no word on that person's condition.

No officers are believed to have been injured in the incident.
