Man caught abusing small dog on cell phone video
A.J. Ross reports from Poughkeepsie.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (WABC) -- A little dog was beaten by the man taking it for a walk, and it was caught on video. We warn you it is disturbing to watch.

The animal abuse was captured on cell phone video by a woman across the street who heard the dog's yelps for help.

Now, police in Dutchess County looking for the man who did this.

"This didn't stop and it kept going on and on and that's what got my attention to get up and look outside," the woman said.

Several heart wrenching squeals and cries for help recently brought this Poughkeepsie woman to her window, and what she witnessed outside and captured on this cell phone video is disturbingly cruel.

"Whatever he did, whether it was sat down or walked behind him or whatever it was, whatever pissed him off, he just continued to hit and no one ever showed up," she said.

For more than a half hour she says she felt helpless watching this man repeatedly lash out and drag this small dog inside adjacent park. Concerned for her own safety if she stepped outside she instead opted to call police twice, but no one ever showed up.

"I was shaking because I was mad and scared and just hurting for the dog," she said. "It was painful to watch, it seemed like it's probably about 30 minutes if not more that that dog took a beating, but for me it seemed like it was weeks and months just watching it and not doing anything about it."

The following day, she filed a formal police report and later posted this video on Facebook. It's since generated several thousand shares and Poughkeepsie Police are now investigating.

"If he's doing this to this poor little dog he could have done something like that to me too," she said.

Police are asking anyone with information to give them a call at 845-451-7577.
