WOODHAVEN (WABC) -- A raccoon trapped for several hours on top of a light pole in Queens was rescued Tuesday.

Police and firefighters responded to a 911 call at 3:18 p.m. at Woodhaven Blvd. and 95th Street in Ozone Park.

Witnesses said the raccoon first climbed the pole at about 10 a.m.

Firefighters held out a pole with a hoop attached to it, and managed to pull the raccoon off the pole at about 4:10.

Animal control officers were on the scene to take the raccoon to safety.

One lane was closed northbound on Woodhaven Boulevard with emergency vehicles while the rescue was underway.
